Mariyang-Geku MLA Inspects Critical Blockages on Pasighat-Mariyang Road After Heavy Rains

Mariyang-Geku MLA, Oni Panyang, recently conducted an on-site inspection of two major blockage points on the Pasighat-Mariyang road within the Upper Siang district’s Mariyang-Geku Assembly Constituency. The blockages were caused by recent heavy rains in the area.

The affected locations near Geying village and Pongging View Point suffered significant damage, with Geying village particularly hit hard by debris and road erosion. Panyang has directed the Public Works Department (PWD) Highway staff to prioritize clearing this area. "If the weather remains dry, the blockage can be cleared within five days. However, persistent heavy rain may extend this to ten days," Panyang stated based on an official assessment.

At Pongging View Point, Panyang confirmed that immediate action had led to the successful clearance of the blockage, with the road now open for traffic. Despite this, he advised caution due to potential residual effects of the heavy rains.

Emphasizing public safety, Panyang urged residents and travelers to avoid non-essential travel during periods of heavy rainfall. "Please limit travel to emergency situations only," he remarked.

Authorities are working diligently to restore normalcy and ensure safe travel conditions. Panyang assured the public that he would continue to monitor the progress and provide regular updates.

"Stay safe and take necessary precautions during this monsoon," advised Panyang following his inspection.

The Pasighat-Mariyang-Yingkiong road, a double lane National Highway 513 constructed by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) in 2019, connects further to Tuting-Geling towns and villages along the India-China border near the McMahon Line. Construction work is ongoing between Yingkiong and Tuting under Upper Siang district.

In related news, Assam plans to build a sluice gate to mitigate flooding in Pandu, as announced by Himanta Biswa Sarma.
