Security forces apprehended three alleged active members of the banned KCP (Noyon) group from different locations. The detained individuals are Md Imtiyaz Khan (21), alias Angouba, from Kairang Mayai Leikai; Thokchorn Romeshchandra Singh (33), alias Ayangba, from Phubala Awang Leikai; and Md Salim (30) from Kairang Mamang Leikai, all in Imphal East District. Authorities suspect their involvement in extortion activities targeting various businesses, including shops, pharmacies, godowns, and oil pumps.
A case has been filed at the Heingang Police Station to facilitate a thorough investigation and to identify other associates involved.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh took to social media platform X, confirming the arrests and commending the security forces. He stated that these individuals were key members of the KCP (Noyon), with Thokchom Romeshchandra being an active figure since 2007, holding the rank of S/s – Sergeant.
Additionally, another operation led to the capture of Aheibam Amorjit Singh (50), a member of the banned Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) / People’s Liberation Army (PLA). He was detained during a routine frisking and checking at Mantripukhri Bazar, Imphal East, on Friday. Singh is suspected of extorting money from three-wheeler operators along NH-2. Another case has been registered for a detailed investigation.
These arrests mark a significant effort by security forces to curb unlawful activities and restore peace in the region.
