Popular television actress Hina Khan, currently battling Stage 3 breast cancer, is openly sharing her journey with her fans. On July 4, Khan posted a video on social media depicting her cutting her hair prior to chemotherapy. The video captures the actress’s mixed emotions as she starts smiling but later breaks into tears.
Alongside the video, Khan shared an emotional note detailing the profound impact on her family, particularly her mother. “You can hear my mother’s wailing voice in Kashmiri (blessing me) in the background as she prepared herself to witness something she never dared to imagine,” Khan wrote. She noted the varying ways in which people cope with intense emotions and highlighted the strength required to face such a personal battle.
Addressing her followers, especially women undergoing similar challenges, Khan penned a motivational message. “I know for most of us, our hair is the crown we never take off. But what if you’re facing a battle so tough that you have to lose your hair—your pride, your crown?” she wrote, emphasizing the necessity of making tough decisions in the fight against cancer. “I choose to win,” she stated.
Khan explained her decision to cut her hair preemptively to avoid a prolonged period of emotional distress from seeing it fall out gradually. “I choose to let go of my crown because I’ve realized my real crown is my COURAGE, my STRENGTH, and the love I have for myself,” she wrote, adding plans to make a wig from her own hair.
Expressing gratitude, Khan acknowledged those supporting her and shared her aim of making her journey an inspiration for others. “If my story can make even one day of this heartwarming yet excruciating experience better for someone, it’s worth it,” she concluded.
