Arunachal Outrage: Congress Stands Firm Against BJP’s Shocking Act of Burning Rahul Gandhi’s Effigy
The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has filed an FIR and presented a formal complaint against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for holding an unauthorized protest and burning an effigy of Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition, near the APCC headquarters in Itanagar.
The incident has ignited widespread outrage and condemnation from the APCC. According to the Committee, members of the BJP’s youth wing, the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), illegally entered the APCC premises, defamed Rahul Gandhi with slogans, and set ablaze his effigy after dousing it with petrol. The protest reportedly took place with the endorsement of the Itanagar Capital Region’s Deputy Commissioner, who had issued an order allowing the demonstration.
APCC has vehemently condemned the act, criticizing the Deputy Commissioner for authorizing the protest and expressing dismay over the involvement of the Superintendent of Police and other officers, who allegedly intruded forcefully into the APCC premises. The Committee highlighted the hazardous nature of the protest due to the proximity of a petrol pump, which posed a significant fire risk and potential for severe casualties.
Reportedly, several APCC General Secretaries were manhandled, pushed, and dragged during the altercation, while threats were exchanged between the protestors and APCC members. The tense situation had the potential for serious injury to both Congress workers and BJYM protestors.
APCC spokesperson Tokom Mina questioned the district administration’s actions, pointing out perceived double standards in handling activists and protestors. She referred to past instances where social activists were detained under the Arunachal Pradesh Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (APUAPA) and questioned the lack of similar measures against the BJYM members involved in this incident.
The APCC is demanding strict legal action against those responsible for the illegal protest and effigy burning, urging authorities to uphold the rule of law and prevent such acts of political intimidation from going unpunished. The incident has further escalated the political tension in Arunachal Pradesh, with both parties resolute in their respective positions.
