
Empower Your Legal Career: Transformative One-Day Certificate Training Workshop on Legal Aid Lawyering at NLU Tripura

Agartala, 20th July 2024: The Legal Aid Society of NLU Tripura, in collaboration with the National Law School of India University (NLSIU) Bengaluru, held a one-day Certificate Training Workshop on “Legal Aid Lawyering.” This event was part of the Pan-India Legal Literacy and Legal Awareness Initiative organized by the Department of Justice, Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India.
During the program, the NLU Tripura Legal Aid Society visited Maheshkhala Anganwari Kendra 01 in Narsingarh Gram Panchayat and Chinnaihani JB School in Das Para, Singarbill Grampanchayat. The visits aimed to identify local issues and establish contacts to address them appropriately.
The workshop commenced with a welcome address by Prof. (Dr.) Yogesh Pratap Singh, Vice-Chancellor of NLU Tripura, who emphasized the importance of lawyers being both professionally competent and socially relevant. The Chief Guest, Justice T. Amarnath Goud, Judge of the High Court of Tripura and Executive Chairman of the Tripura Legal Services Authority, inaugurated the event. He stressed the critical need for legal literacy, comparing the importance of legal aid to medical aid as a fundamental right. Prof. (Dr.) Sairam Bhat from NLSIU spoke about the concept of digital arrest and the significance of awareness about online platforms, highlighting the ‘Nyaya Bandhu’ app’s utility. During the event, the dignitaries released the “Tripura ADR Chronicle, Legal News Bulletin” from NLU Tripura’s ADR Centre.
The workshop saw participation from Shri Ashutosh Pandey, Director, and Surabhi Shekhar, OSD, Tripura Judicial Academy, along with faculty members from NLU Tripura and Tripura Government Law College. Students from ICFAI University, Tripura, and TGLC, alongside research scholars, NGOs, and lawyers from the State Bar Council, also attended. Dr. Jayanta Dhar, Assistant Professor of Law, and Faculty Advisor of the Legal Aid Society at NLU Tripura, coordinated the event. The program concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks from Prof. (Dr.) Nachiketa Mittal, Registrar of NLUT.
