Nagaland Governor Urges Better Myanmar Road Link Via Meluri
Dimapur: Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav on Wednesday stressed the need for better road connectivity to Myanmar, which borders the state’s Meluri district, saying improved infrastructure would expand access to markets and essential services and create new opportunities in trade, tourism and economic activity. He made the remarks during a visit to Meluri district, where he met the district administration, heads of departmental offices, village council representatives and other dignitaries at the Meluri Village Council hall.
Yadav highlighted the potential of the International Trade Centre at Avakhung to promote cross-border trade and strengthen connectivity with Southeast Asia under the Government of India’s Act East Policy. He also called for harnessing Meluri’s mineral resources, tourism potential, agriculture and horticulture for sustainable economic growth while ensuring environmental protection and safeguarding the interests of local communities.
The governor stressed the importance of strengthening education, healthcare, drinking water, electricity and digital connectivity to improve the quality of life of the people. He urged government departments to work with urgency and vision and encouraged the people of Meluri to participate actively in the district’s development.
Yadav expressed confidence that Meluri, Nagaland’s youngest district, could emerge as a model border district that is peaceful, connected, environmentally responsible and economically vibrant, contributing to Nagaland’s progress and India’s engagement with Southeast Asia.
