Zubeen Garg’s Wife Garima Seeks Governor’s Intervention
The wife of the late artiste Zubeen Garg has sought the intervention of the Assam Governor in ensuring justice in her husband’s death case. On Wednesday, Garima Saikia Garg met the Governor and submitted a seven-point memorandum demanding transparency and judicial accountability in the trial proceedings. The memorandum specifically calls for ensuring fairness and accountability in the legal process surrounding the high-profile case.
Meanwhile, protests and demands for justice have intensified across Assam over the death of Zubeen Garg. Daily hearings in the case are continuing at the Fast Track Court in Guwahati. On Wednesday, the court resumed the recording of testimony from instrumentalist Partha Goswami. His scheduled deposition on Tuesday had to be postponed after the government advocate fell ill.
In another development, public dissatisfaction has been expressed in various parts of the state following the conditional bail granted by the Gauhati High Court to two accused in the case — singer Amritaprabha Mahanta and suspended police officer Sandipan Garg, a relative of Zubeen Garg. The granting of bail has reignited concerns among the general public regarding the trial process in the case.
Students from Cotton University, B. Baruah College, and Handique Girls’ College, in collaboration with the Zubeen Fan Club, have already carried out human chain programmes demanding justice. The All Assam Students’ Union has also announced plans to organise protest candle marches and torch rallies across the state. Protest programmes demanding an impartial investigation, transparency, and judicial accountability in the death of Zubeen Garg continue to be held throughout Assam.
