Shots Fired at Delhi Businessman’s Home: Lawrence Bishnoi Link Probed
Two unidentified men on a motorcycle opened fire at the residence of a Dubai-based businessman in northwest Delhi’s Pitampura in the early hours of Wednesday, with bullets striking the walls of the house and a car parked outside. No injuries were reported in the predawn attack, which police are investigating for a possible link to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
Officers recovered one live cartridge and two empty cartridge cases from the spot. The firing took place in A-Block of Lok Vihar, where three bullet marks were found on a car and four to five bullet marks were spotted on a house opposite the site. The Crime Team and the Forensic Science Laboratory inspected the scene, and the vehicle along with the recovered exhibits was taken into police possession for further investigation.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Akansha Yadav, the two men arrived on a motorcycle around 5 am and opened fire. “We have formed teams and are analysing CCTV footage. We are working on the entry and exit points,” Yadav said. She added that no one had claimed responsibility for the firing and that there was no fresh threat to the businessman.
CCTV footage of the incident purportedly shows the two men arriving on a motorcycle. The rider was wearing a helmet, while the pillion rider had covered his face with a cloth. One of them is seen stepping off the bike and firing several rounds before the duo fled the spot, sources said.
Police said six rounds were fired in total and suspect the attack could be linked to an extortion attempt, though the exact motive is yet to be established. Investigators are examining whether the shooting was intended to intimidate the businessman, identified as Sahil Jain, alias Google, and whether any criminal gang was involved.
Jain had allegedly received a threatening phone call from jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi in 2021, in which Bishnoi threatened him and his family. An audio clip of the alleged conversation subsequently went viral, sources said. A case in connection with the threat was registered at the Special Cell in 2023.
Police are now examining CCTV footage from surrounding areas, analysing the suspects’ entry and exit routes and gathering intelligence to identify the attackers. Further investigation is underway.
