M’laya-ni voter-rang 7%-chi komibataha: SIR-ko ka·anio
Shillong: Meghalaya’s electoral roll has shrunk by 7.05 per cent, election officials said on Monday, with the decline announced as the Photo Electoral Roll was printed under the current phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in the state.
Officials said the electoral roll had 23,49,645 electors before the SIR was taken up, and with the names of 1,65,682 voters removed during the exercise, the revised roll now carries roughly 21.84 lakh electors.
State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) BDR Tiwari, speaking on the occasion of the printing of the Photo Electoral Roll, said the SIR was conducted to strike off the names of those who have died, electors who have permanently shifted out, and voters registered at more than one place, while ensuring that eligible citizens are included in the roll.
According to the CEO, 6,51,736 notices were issued during the current phase of the SIR, and hearings were completed in all the cases.
The office received 21,694 applications through Forms 6 and 6A for inclusion of names in the electoral roll, 2,276 applications through Form 8 for corrections, 2,526 applications through Form 7 for deletion of names, and 12,860 applications through Form 8 for correction of names, transfer and change of address, Tiwari said.
The Election Commission has informed that voters can check whether their names figure in the newly printed electoral roll through the Voters’ Service Portal, the ECINET mobile application, or by approaching their respective Booth Level Officers (BLOs).
Tiwari further stated that after the printing of the electoral roll, a Special Enrolment Drive would soon be launched to provide an opportunity to genuine, eligible citizens whose names have been left out of the roll, and urged such persons to submit the necessary documents.
