Gangster Himanshu Bhau, Wanted for Multiple Murders, Arrested in US
Notorious gangsters Himanshu Bhau and Neeraj Faridpuria, wanted in India for multiple murders and organised crime, have been arrested in the United States. The two were detained together in Las Vegas on October 22 following inputs from the Haryana Special Task Force (STF), with assistance from the US immigration enforcement agency ICE. The Haryana STF is working with US authorities and central agencies to secure their deportation to India.
Himanshu, whose real name is Himanshu Ritoliya, had obtained a passport under the alias “Himanshu Sigroha”. A rival of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, he figured on the most-wanted lists of Haryana and Delhi Police. Murder, kidnapping and extortion cases have been registered against him and his associates across Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, along with an Interpol notice against him. Reports also link him to Portugal, where he is suspected of running his network, and to gangs associated with Neeraj Bawana and Naveen Bali.
Neeraj Faridpuria, a resident of Haryana’s Palwal district, was in the US at the time of his arrest and faces more than 25 criminal cases. Arrested after an encounter in 2012, he was sentenced to life in a murder case in 2015 but got bail from the Punjab and Haryana High Court in 2019. His name later surfaced in the June 2019 murder of Congress spokesperson Vikas Chaudhary in Faridabad, after which he allegedly fled via Dubai to Canada to run the rival Bambiha gang. He later moved to the US, allegedly working with the Bhau gang, and had claimed responsibility for the firing outside YouTuber Elvish Yadav’s residence.
The Bhau gang has been linked to a string of shootings and murders in the Delhi-NCR region, often through social media claims of responsibility. One case involves gym trainer Vijay Kumar, shot dead in south Delhi’s Aya Nagar in September. Men allegedly called him out of a gym before two motorcycle-borne attackers fired around 15 rounds near Hansa Chowk in the Fatehpur Beri area. “Vijay Kumar sustained multiple gunshot injuries and later succumbed… The motive initially seems to arise from personal enmity,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Anant Mittal had said. Police are probing a family rivalry angle and verifying a purported post by Bhau claiming responsibility for the attack. It carried a warning in Hindi: “Bhagne se kam nahi chalega field me aao. Bhagne nahi dunga kisi ko (Running away won’t help; come out into the field. I won’t let anyone run away).”
Earlier this year, 55-year-old dairy businessman Ratan Lohia was shot dead near his Aya Nagar home, the same locality as Kumar’s killing, with over 60 rounds fired after hours of reconnaissance, police sources said. His family alleged it was retaliation by Rambir Lohia and relatives for the killing of Rambir’s 24-year-old son Arun near Chattarpur Metro Station. Police also suspected Neeraj Faridpuria’s involvement and probed whether shooters from Haryana, travelling from Faridabad, carried out the attack. Four alleged members of the Bhau gang were arrested in connection with the murder, police sources said.
