Justice for Zubeen Garg: Assam Forum Plans Protests Ahead of Bail Hearing
The Zubeen Garg Nyay Dabi Samiti has announced a renewed phase of its campaign for justice for the late singer, calling a statewide mobilisation ahead of a critical Supreme Court hearing next month.
The committee has scheduled a major coordination meeting for October 25 at noon at Zubeen Khetra in Assam, bringing together representatives from districts across the state, members of the forum, and supporters of the beloved artist. The gathering aims to consolidate public support and strategise the next steps in the ongoing fight for accountability in the case surrounding Garg’s death.
According to organisers, the campaign will intensify in the coming weeks, with large-scale demonstrations planned across Assam before the Supreme Court hears the bail pleas of the accused on November 6. The Samiti has urged people from all walks of life, regardless of political affiliation, to join the movement and demand a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the singer’s demise.
Garg, whose timeless contributions to Assamese music earned him a permanent place in the hearts of millions, passed away under circumstances that continue to raise serious questions. His widow, Garima Saikia Garg, has been actively involved in the campaign, lending her voice to the call for a comprehensive and impartial probe.
The committee has also announced plans to submit formal memoranda to both the Assam government and the Union government, pressing for a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to look into the matter. Supporters argue that the case has broader implications for the state’s cultural heritage and the dignity of its artists.
“This is not just about one individual; it is about the soul of Assam and the respect we owe to those who gave us their art,” a spokesperson for the Samiti said, echoing the sentiments of countless admirers across the Northeast.
As the campaign gathers momentum, all eyes will be on the state administration’s response and the upcoming legal proceedings. The Samiti has reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing every available avenue, both on the streets and in the courts, until justice is served for the iconic singer whose voice defined an era in Assamese music.
