Members of Self Help Groups (SHGs) from the Bermiok Berthang Federation in West Sikkim were honored as special guests at the Independence Day celebrations in New Delhi. They were selected by the State Rural Livelihood Mission (SRLM) and the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) to represent Sikkim under the ‘Lakhpati Didi’ scheme.
During the national celebrations, the SHG members participated in a program at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (Pusa Institute), where they had the opportunity to interact with Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan. The minister listened to their concerns attentively and offered his blessings and encouragement for their future endeavors, as reported by an SRLM press release.
This visit not only highlighted the contributions of SHG members but also inspired them to further their commitment to the socio-economic upliftment of SHG communities across the state. The experience served as a motivating force for these local leaders, reinforcing their dedication to improving livelihoods within their communities.
