Social Welfare Minister P. Geetha Jeevan handed out appointment orders to candidates during a job fair held at St. Mary’s College in Thoothukudi on Saturday. This event marked a significant milestone for job seekers, with a total of 642 candidates securing positions through the fair.

The job fair, which saw the participation of over 100 companies and eight skill training providers, was jointly organized by the District Employment and Career Guidance Centre, the State Rural and Urban Livelihood Mission, and St. Mary’s College. The collaborative effort aimed to connect local talent with job opportunities while enhancing employment prospects in the region.

A remarkable 2,223 candidates registered for the event, comprising 1,143 men, 1,072 women, and eight individuals from other categories. Following a rigorous interview and document verification process, the companies swiftly selected 642 candidates for immediate employment. This selective process included 367 men and 275 women, reflecting the diverse workforce engaged during the fair.

Minister P. Geetha Jeevan’s active participation underscored the government’s commitment to boosting employment in the community. “This initiative not only helps candidates find jobs but also strengthens our economy by bridging the skills gap,” she stated while distributing the appointment letters.

The job fair represents an essential opportunity for candidates to engage with potential employers and gain insights into the current job market. By focusing on direct recruitment, the event aimed to facilitate a smooth transition from education to employment, especially for young graduates in the area.

Feedback from participants has been overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the fair as a valuable platform for networking and skill development. Employers expressed satisfaction with the quality of candidates, while job seekers appreciated the focused approach and immediate outcomes of the event.

The successful execution of this job fair is a testament to the collaborative efforts of local institutions and government bodies, ensuring that job seekers in Thoothukudi have access to meaningful employment.

This initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance livelihood opportunities across Tamil Nadu, with similar events expected to be organized in the future to cater to the growing demand for skilled workers. As communities continue to recover and grow, job fairs like this one play a crucial role in shaping the local economy.

The impact of such initiatives extends beyond immediate employment, fostering skills development that is essential for long-term career growth. Stakeholders are optimistic that continued partnerships between educational institutions and industry can yield significant benefits for job seekers, employers, and the economy as a whole.

In conclusion, the recent job fair in Thoothukudi stands as a beacon of hope for many, demonstrating the possibilities that arise when collaboration and commitment converge to create impactful employment opportunities.
