Assam CM Reviews Golaghat Sugar Mill Site for Future Industrial Park Development
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma conducted an inspection on May 20 of the former Assam Co-operative Sugar Mill situated in Barua Bamungaon, Khumtai constituency, Golaghat district. This inspection is part of the Assam Government’s ongoing efforts to enhance industrial infrastructure and increase land availability for investors.
During his visit, Sarma highlighted that following the Advantage Assam 2.0 summit, numerous industrial groups have expressed interest in establishing operations in Assam and have requested land from the state government. He noted that two industrial projects in Numaligarh have recently received approval, with land allocation already confirmed. Furthermore, additional industrial ventures are anticipated, prompting the government to initiate measures for land allocation for these projects.
Sarma also mentioned the government’s commitment to preventing encroachment on vacant government land while transforming such areas into industrial parks. He identified the former sugar mill site as a crucial location for future industrial development. Once legal and administrative issues regarding the land are resolved, approximately 500 bighas will be made available for industrial purposes, potentially contributing significantly to the state’s industrial capacity.
Plans are underway to construct a boundary wall around the site, with construction expected to commence shortly. Sarma reiterated that the state is taking steps to protect vacant government land, with district commissioners already instructed to implement these measures.
