Uproar in Patna: Bihar Police Detain Prashant Kishor During Intense BPSC Protest – A Defiant Fast Unto Death

Prashant Kishor, the founder of Jan Suraaj and former election strategist, was detained by Patna police during his hunger strike demanding the cancellation of a controversial Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) examination. Kishor’s indefinite fast, initiated on January 2 at Gandhi Maidan, aimed to support students alleging malpractice in the BPSC’s 70th combined preliminary competitive exam held on December 13. They claim the question paper was leaked, and have been protesting in Patna for over two weeks.

Authorities escorted Kishor to Patna AIIMS for a medical check-up following his detention, as seen in footage capturing police removing him amidst a throng of protestors trying to block the police action. This protest intensified after the Bihar government announced a re-examination, which Kishor argued was a tacit acknowledgment of the alleged irregularities.

Kishor appealed to opposition leaders such as Rahul Gandhi of Congress and Tejashwi Yadav of Rashtriya Janata Dal to amplify the demand for the exam’s cancellation. He emphasized the protest as crucial for the youth’s future, alleging a harsh regime that employed force excessively, citing 87 lathi charges in recent years.

An FIR was previously filed against Kishor and his supporters for what authorities described as an illegal protest. Despite this, Kishor remains steadfast in his mission, leveraging his platform to challenge the administration and rally wider political and public backing. His actions have sparked a dialogue on the integrity and fairness of public examinations in Bihar, ensuring that the issue remains in the forefront of state politics.
