Breaking News: CAQM Revokes Stage-III of GRAP in NCR – A Breath of Relief as Stages I & II Persist!
The Commission of Air Quality Management (CAQM) has lifted Stage-III of the revised Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in the National Capital Region (NCR) effective immediately on Sunday. Despite this change, measures under Stages II and I will persist and be rigorously applied, monitored, and reviewed by all relevant agencies across the NCR. This ongoing effort aims to prevent a rise in the Air Quality Index (AQI) levels in the upcoming days.
During a comprehensive assessment of the overall air quality parameters in Delhi-NCR, the Sub-Committee noted a steady improvement in Delhi’s AQI due to favorable weather conditions and consistent rainfall since early morning. At 5 PM, the AQI was recorded at 335, and forecasts predict further improvement. Consequently, it is expected that the AQI will remain within the “Poor” category, largely influenced by ongoing favorable meteorological conditions.
However, certain restrictions remain in place. Construction and demolition sites, along with industrial units that have received closure orders due to violations, are prohibited from resuming operations without explicit permission from the Commission. This precaution underscores the importance of adhering to the guidelines aimed at sustaining air quality improvement efforts.
The Sub-Committee remains vigilant and will continuously monitor the air quality landscape. They are prepared to reassess the situation and enact further measures if necessary, based on real-time air quality data. This approach is intended to ensure that measures in place effectively curb pollution and maintain the trajectory towards cleaner air for Delhi-NCR residents.
