Urgent Call for Unity: Deputy CM Inspires Naga Factions Toward Revolutionary Political Resolution
Nagaland’s Deputy Chief Minister Y. Patton has emphasized the urgent need for unity amongst all Naga factions to achieve a lasting solution to the Naga political issue. Addressing the 175th anniversary of the Lhisemia Khel amalgamation at the NBCC Convention Centre in Kohima, Patton highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to resolving the longstanding issue, stressing that cooperation among all factions is essential.
Patton, who also serves as the president of the state BJP legislature party, insisted that the government aims to deliver a unified solution for all Nagas rather than contend with disparate factions. While supporting factions engaged in sincere dialogue with the government, Patton criticized others involved in activities like extortion that disrupt the movement. He called on all Naga political groups to set aside differences and work towards collective goals, reminiscent of the unity seen during the early days of the Naga political movement under A.Z. Phizo’s leadership.
The Deputy Chief Minister lamented the current state of fragmentation, with approximately 28 factions causing governance challenges and fostering illegal activities. Patton stressed the importance of peace and unity among tribes, clans, and regions for sustainable development. He also praised Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio’s opposition-less government for unifying all 60 MLAs in efforts to foster harmony and resolve the century-old conflict.
Reflecting on history, Patton commended the foresight of Lhisemia Khel ancestors who united three khels in 1850, emphasizing collective resilience in adversity. Kohima village’s role as a traditional landlord in integrating Nagas with other inhabitants was also highlighted.
During the event, notable figures like Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu delivered speeches, and the Lhisemia Choir performed to celebrate Lhisemia Khel’s enduring legacy. Patton announced plans to address the cabinet about engagements with NSCN (I-M) and the seven NNPGs, noting that while the State Government was not part of tripartite talks regarding Frontier Nagaland Territory, the Central government would keep them informed.
In conclusion, Patton reiterated the necessity of unity for a peaceful and progressive future for Nagaland.
