Shocking: Brotherhood FC Slammed with Two-Match Ban after Sikkim Referee Manhandling Incident – Justice Served
The Sikkim Football Association (SFA) convened an urgent meeting today to address recent troubling incidents in the ongoing 2024-2025 SFA “A” Division S-League. Presided over by SFA General Secretary Phurba Sherpa, the primary focus was a severe altercation involving Brotherhood FC and Sikkim Boys FC, where Brotherhood FC’s players and staff allegedly assaulted referees post-match.
Following Brotherhood FC’s 3-0 win over Sikkim Boys FC, players, led by their coach and assistant coach, reportedly charged at the center referee from Assam, who left the field in tears due to emotional distress. Despite police presence, the situation escalated, with Brotherhood FC continuing to confront the officials.
This violent behavior was not unprecedented. Earlier in the season, local referees also faced similar aggression. Clubs had previously provided written assurances to maintain sportsmanship and respect for match officials; however, these incidents indicate that such commitments were not honored.
In response to these actions, the SFA has imposed a two-match suspension on Brotherhood FC, barring them from their games against Sang Mustang and Gangtok Himalayan. The continuation of the league is now contingent on securing referees from Kolkata and ensuring ground availability.
This latest development underscores the ongoing challenges in maintaining discipline and respect within the league. The SFA’s decisive action seeks to reinforce the importance of sportsmanship and the protection of officials, reflecting a broader concern for the integrity of the sport.
Additionally, Sikkim’s Eksha Kerung is set to star in ‘Reality Rani’s of the Jungle,’ adding a note of interest for local sports enthusiasts.
These measures by the SFA highlight the association’s commitment to fostering a safe and respectful environment for all participants in Sikkim football.
