Discover Mumbai in Just One Hour: Unveiling MMRDA’s Revolutionary 7 New Ring Roads
Mumbaikars can now anticipate crossing the city within an hour, thanks to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority’s (MMRDA) ambitious plan to construct an additional 90.18 km of roads. The MMRDA has proposed the development of seven ring roads, estimated to cost ₹58,517 crore, as reported by the Indian Express. This extensive infrastructure proposal aims to dramatically reduce travel times across Mumbai, facilitating quicker commutes and boosting productivity.
The seven ring roads will also include pivotal infrastructure projects such as metros, bridges, flyovers, and slum development, at a projected total cost of ₹3 lakh crore. These ring roads are designed to enhance east-west connectivity, crucial for the city’s overall efficiency.
Here is a summary of the ring roads’ locations and routes:
-
First Ring Road: Starting from Nariman Point, it will head to Bandra via the Worli Sea Link, then proceed to Sewri-Worli Connector, Eastern Freeway, and return via the Orange Gate Tunnel and Coastal Road.
-
Second Ring Road: Commencing at Nariman Point, this route will link to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, continue along the WEH, Santacruz-Chembur Link Road, EEH, connecting to the Eastern Freeway, and loop back via the Orange Gate Tunnel.
-
Third Ring Road: Initiating from Nariman Point, connecting the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, JVLR, Kanjurmarg Junction, and linking with the Eastern Freeway Extension, ultimately looping back via the Orange Gate Tunnel.
-
Fourth Ring Road: From Nariman Point to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, then to the Versova-Dahisar Link Road, Goregaon-Mulund Link Road, joining the Eastern Freeway Extension and looping back.
-
Fifth Ring Road: Similar to the fourth but extending to Bhayander, Fountain Hotel Connector, Gaimukh through the Ghodbunder Tunnel, connecting further via Anand Nagar-Saket Flyover.
-
Sixth Ring Road: Starting at Nariman Point, it will cover roads such as the Mira Bhayander Link Road, Alibaug Virar Corridor, Thane Coastal Road, Anand Nagar Saket Flyover, linking to the Eastern Freeway.
