Historic Collaboration: PM Narendra Modi and Joe Biden Forge Strong India-US Ties Ahead of Crucial Quad Summit
Joe Biden Welcomes PM Modi for Bilateral Talks and Quad Summit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in the United States for a three-day official visit, kicking off with bilateral talks with US President Joe Biden. The leaders will discuss key issues aiming to bolster India-US ties. The talks will be closely followed by Modi and Biden’s participation in the strategic Quad summit, alongside Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
The Prime Minister shared his arrival in Philadelphia on social media, highlighting the day’s focus on the Quad Summit and bilateral meeting. He emphasized that these discussions aim to address global challenges and improve planetary well-being.
Modi received a warm welcome from the Indian community in the US, appreciatively noting their significant contributions across diverse sectors. He is also scheduled to address the ‘Modi And US’ program in New York on Sunday.
Several key agreements are likely, including India acquiring 31 predator drones from the US. There may also be an announcement regarding India-US space collaboration, featuring Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla’s mission to the International Space Station under Axiom-4.
One prominent agenda item at the Quad summit will be addressing challenges posed by China, including military actions and trade practices. The summit, held in Joe Biden’s hometown of Wilmington, Delaware, is notable as it will be the last for both Biden and Japanese PM Kishida.
The Quad, comprising India, Australia, Japan, and the US, focuses on promoting an open and stable Indo-Pacific region. This year’s summit will address health security, climate change, emerging technologies, and counter-terrorism, among other issues. It will also discuss the Israel-Hezbollah conflict, Russia-Ukraine war, and an expansion of the Indo-Pacific Partnership for Maritime Domain Awareness initiative.
The Quad’s cooperation seeks to ensure a free and open Indo-Pacific, upholding international laws and a rules-based order. India, initially the 2024 host, has agreed to host next year’s summit following Washington’s request.
