In a horrifying incident in Assam’s Goalpara district, a 70-year-old woman was allegedly raped and an attempt made on her life in the Matia area. On Friday, the elderly victim went to graze her cow when the assailant, naked and with his face covered by a piece of cloth, confronted her. According to initial reports, he raped her and attempted to strangle her. Miraculously, the woman managed to escape by biting her attacker.
She has since been taken to a hospital in Matia for medical examination and is expected to be referred to a facility in Goalpara for further treatment. The traumatic experience has left her severely mentally distressed. Following the incident, local authorities promptly launched an investigation to apprehend the suspect involved in this brutal act.
Further heightening the seriousness of the situation, Guwahati Lok Sabha MP Bijuli Kalita Medhi visited the site of the crime on Sunday. She assessed the situation firsthand and instructed the police to expedite their efforts to catch the perpetrator and ensure justice is served.
