Manipur Security Forces Arrest KNF-MC Cadre, Seize Arms, Brown Sugar
Imphal: Security forces in Manipur’s Churachandpur district arrested an alleged cadre of the Kuki National Front (Military Council) and seized foreign-made firearms, ammunition and suspected narcotics in a joint operation on Monday, officials said Tuesday.
The intelligence-led operation was carried out by Churachandpur District Police, the 129 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force and Assam Rifles near M. Songgel in Kingkin village. Personnel intercepted a suspicious white Bolero vehicle and searched it, recovering a foreign-made AK-series rifle, a foreign-made MA1 rifle and 240 rounds of assorted ammunition. Two transparent plastic packets containing about 1.027 kg of suspected brown sugar were also seized.
Police identified the driver as 23-year-old Letkhothang Khongsai, a resident of D. Lhangjol village. He was detained for questioning after the recovery. During preliminary interrogation, Khongsai reportedly admitted to being an active member of the KNF-MC, an armed group operating under the Suspension of Operations agreement.
Authorities seized the suspected narcotics, firearms, ammunition and the Bolero vehicle. Further investigation is underway to establish the circumstances of the seizure and to determine whether the recovered items were linked to other activities.
