Mixed Reactions to Vicky Kaushal and Triptii Dimri’s Upcoming Rom-Com ‘Bad Newz’

The forthcoming romantic comedy "Bad Newz," starring Vicky Kaushal and Triptii Dimri, has sparked a mix of reactions with its trailer and soundtrack. While the "Tauba Tauba" track initially garnered praise, the subsequent "Jaanam" song faced criticism. Most recently, fans have voiced significant displeasure over the recreation of the classic song "Mere Mehboob Mere Sanam" from the Shah Rukh Khan-Juhi Chawla film "Duplicate," condemning the new version for tarnishing the legacy of the beloved ’90s hit.

The reimagined "Mere Mehboob" track features a slow-motion romantic dance between Kaushal and Dimri in a picturesque setting. The narrative highlights a conflict between Kaushal and Ammy Virk’s characters, culminating in an unusual bonding moment. Notably, fans are unimpressed with the new background score, lamenting the departure from the song’s original charm.

On social media, one disappointed fan commented, “Another classic song spoiled.” Others echoed similar sentiments, suggesting that having Shah Rukh Khan make a guest appearance could have served as an apt tribute. Another user lamented, “Ruined the song well,” while others questioned why filmmakers continue to recycle classic songs rather than creating new ones.

For context, the original "Mere Mehboob" was a memorable part of Mahesh Bhatt’s "Duplicate," featuring Shah Rukh Khan in a dual role alongside Juhi Chawla and Sonali Bendre. The song depicted a love triangle, with Khan dancing with Bendre while dreaming of Chawla.

"Bad Newz," directed by Anand Tiwari, is a spiritual sequel to the 2019 film "Good Newwz" and centers on heteropaternal superfecundation, where Triptii’s character is pregnant with children from both Kaushal and Virk’s characters. The film is supported by Dharma Productions, Leo Media Collective, and Prime Video India, and is set to release on July 19.

Despite the mixed feedback, anticipation around the film remains high, highlighting its intriguing premise and strong cast.
