West Asia War LIVE: U.S. Strikes Multiple Targets in Iran
Inflation in Iran surged in June to 88.6% year-on-year, driven by the war, official figures show, the Statistical Centre of Iran said for the Persian month of Khordad (May 22–June 21). The sharp rise marks a significant acceleration in consumer price growth compared with earlier this year.
Food inflation was especially severe, more than doubling year-on-year during Khordad: bread and grain prices rose 138.8%, milk, cheese and eggs increased 151.9%, and prices for red meat and poultry jumped 178.2%. These gains underscore a steep rise in basic food costs for Iranian households.
The report notes the spike comes against a backdrop of long-standing high inflation tied to international sanctions and economic strain. By comparison, year-on-year inflation stood at 68% in February, before the outbreak of the war.
The new figures signal mounting cost-of-living pressures across Iran as consumers face dramatically higher prices for staple goods. The data were released by the Statistical Centre of Iran and reported by AFP.
