Intel Agencies Warn of Khalistani Terror Threat to Delhi, Uttarakhand
New Delhi, June 27 — Intelligence agencies have issued a security alert for Delhi and Uttarakhand after an email warning of possible Khalistani-linked attacks surfaced, prompting heightened surveillance of religious sites, government buildings and police installations, officials and sources said. The alert was raised after the email reportedly named several temples in both states, along with railway stations, government offices and police units, and also referred to certain political leaders, raising concern among security agencies.
The advisory follows a recent standoff at the Nagrasu gurdwara in Rudraprayag district, where a group of Nihang Sikhs clashed with authorities while demanding the release of four members arrested after an incident in Karnaprayag market on June 16. That standoff ended on June 23 after intervention by a Sikh delegation. On the night of June 25, another group of Nihang Sikhs entered Uttarakhand via the Kulhal border in Dehradun district, pressing the same demand before officials persuaded them to return to Paonta Sahib.
In response to the emailed threat, Delhi Police, Uttarakhand Police and central intelligence agencies have stepped up vigilance and begun reviewing security arrangements at sensitive and high-footfall locations as a precaution, sources said. Deployments have been increased at key religious places, transport hubs and government buildings, and local police units have been directed to intensify patrolling and remain alert.
Delhi Police has launched a probe to verify the authenticity of the email and trace its origin, officials added. Cyber experts are analysing the message’s digital trail to determine whether the communication is credible or a hoax. So far, authorities say there is no specific information on timing or exact locations for any alleged attack, but preventive measures are being implemented given the seriousness of the alert.
Security agencies have not ruled out any possibility and continue close monitoring of suspicious activity, the sources said. (PTI)
