Nagaland’s First Drone Workshop Empowers STEM Education
Kohima: The Directorate of Science and Technology, Government of Nagaland, in partnership with the Southern Angami Students’ Union (SASU), organised a two-day hands-on drone workshop at the Village Council Hall in Kidima on June 12–13. The programme, billed by organisers as Nagaland’s first drone training initiative, aimed to strengthen skill-based STEM education in the state by introducing participants to practical drone operation and related technologies.
The workshop combined classroom briefings with practical, on-site sessions designed to familiarise attendees with basic drone controls, safety guidelines and flight exercises. Organisers said the training sought to spark interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics among young people and to provide practical skills that can be applied in education and community projects.
Local leaders and the organising bodies emphasised the event’s role in building technical capacity at the grassroots level. By bringing hands-on robotics and drone experience to Kidima, the organisers intend to create a foundation for more frequent, accessible STEM activities across Nagaland.
Participants and organisers described the two-day event as a first step toward wider skill-development efforts, with hopes that similar workshops will expand opportunities for youth to engage with emerging technologies.
