
Excitement Unleashed: IIM Shillong Proudly Welcomes 400 Talented Students to its 17th PGP Batch!
SHILLONG, July 19: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong has welcomed 400 candidates into its 17th batch of the Post Graduate Programme (PGP). According to the institute, it had initially received over 2.29 lakh applications for the course. Candidates were selected following their performance in the Common Admission Test (CAT) and subsequent personal interviews.
The newly admitted PGP 2024-26 batch showcases a well-balanced gender ratio with 45% female and 55% male students. The participants’ ages range from 20 to 29 years, with an average age of 23.7 years. Academically, they come from varied backgrounds—35% have engineering degrees, while 65% hold degrees in non-engineering disciplines. Notably, some participants also possess master’s degrees in fields such as MA, MCom, ME, MS/MSc, MSc-Integrated, and MTech-Integrated.
In terms of professional experience, a significant portion of the batch, 72%, have prior work experience, which promises to enrich classroom discussions with practical insights and diverse perspectives. This year’s batch is also geographically diverse, with participants coming from 21 states and 2 union territories across the country, reflecting a wide tapestry of cultures and experiences.
Director of IIM Shillong, Prof. DP Goyal, lauded the students for their perseverance and dedication throughout the rigorous admission process. He emphasized the importance of their diverse backgrounds and experiences as integral to the learning environment in the institute.
The new batch’s diversity, both in terms of academic background and geographic distribution, is expected to contribute significantly to the institute’s dynamic learning environment, fostering a robust exchange of ideas and experiences.
