LIVE: Trump Says 2026 Midterm Results Will Be Better Than You Think
Linda Jones, a first-time election observer in her 70s, set up a folding chair near a polling station at a public library in Atlanta, Georgia, to help voters navigate the U.S. midterms and watch for anything that could keep them from casting ballots. She and two other volunteers will monitor activity around the site and report any issues that arise.
Jones said she wants to help people through a voting process that has become increasingly complicated. “I want to help people navigate the voting, which has gotten more and more complicated,” said Jones, who is serving as an election observer for the first time.
She said her concerns are rooted in the current political climate, in which misinformation and certain actions can discourage people from voting, particularly among parts of the population. “In a climate like we are in the country, there’s misinformation, there are actions that are taken that discourage some people from voting, certain parts of the population,” she said.
The volunteers’ role is to keep a close watch on activity around the polling station and report any problems, according to the AFP report. Jones’s presence highlights concerns about access and misinformation as voters take part in the U.S. midterms.
