Guwahati, Nov 3 — The Assam government will develop five ropeway projects across the state in partnership with the Centre through a joint company, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Tuesday after a Cabinet meeting. The Government of India will hold a 51 per cent stake and the Assam government 49 per cent in the joint venture, Sarma said at a press briefing, adding that the Kamakhya Railway Station-to-Kamakhya Temple route has made considerable progress while the remaining projects are at the pre-Detailed Project Report stage. The projects aim to improve connectivity to important religious and tourist destinations across Assam.
The proposed routes are the 1.43-km Kamakhya Railway Station-to-Kamakhya Temple link in Kamrup Metropolitan district; the 11-km Khanapara-to-Guwahati Railway Station route, also in Kamrup Metropolitan; the Ganganagar Part-VII-to-Bhuban Pahar Mahadev Temple project in the Barak Valley; the 3.50-km Jatinga Bird Watching Tower-to-Hempupet Peak route in Dima Hasao district; and the 1.80-km Agnigadh Hill-to-Bhairabi Temple link in Sonitpur district.
