FIR Against CIT Kokrajhar Authorities Over Unhygienic Hostel Food
The District Commissioner of Kokrajhar has registered a First Information Report against the concerned authorities of the Central Institute of Technology (CIT), Kokrajhar, following a magisterial inquiry into alleged unhygienic food served at the institute’s girls’ hostel. The incident occurred on September 26, when around 60 girl students reportedly fell ill after eating dinner at the hostel.
According to reports, the students began experiencing abdominal pain at about 10:15 pm. Several subsequently developed vomiting and diarrhoea. The affected students were taken to Kokrajhar Medical College and Hospital for medical attention.
A doctor treating the students said their symptoms were consistent with possible food poisoning. However, the exact cause of the illnesses had not been established at the time of the report.
Following the incident, CIT students staged a protest on September 28. They demanded immediate action against the hostel food contractor and called for improved hygiene and food-safety standards in the mess. The protesters also alleged negligence by the institute’s authorities and the contractor, saying that previous complaints about unhygienic kitchen conditions had gone unaddressed.
