Rain Disrupts Train Services on Bairabi-Sairang Rail Section
Heavy rain brought water and mud onto the tracks between Kawnpui and Mualkhang on the Bairabi-Sairang railway section in Mizoram on Wednesday afternoon, forcing the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) to suspend train movement and cancel or curtail several services. The affected stretch was closed as a safety precaution while railway teams assessed the damage and began restoration work.
Railway officials said 20 buses were being arranged at Bairabi to transport stranded passengers from the Silchar-Sairang and Kolkata-Sairang Express trains to Sairang and Aizawl, Mizoram’s capital. The Bairabi-Sairang line is the main rail link to the state capital region.
The Sairang-Guwahati Express, scheduled to depart on September 30, and the Sairang-Silchar Express, scheduled for October 1, have been cancelled. The Silchar-Sairang Express, which began its journey on Wednesday, and the Kolkata-Sairang Express, which departed on September 29, will terminate at Bairabi, with the Bairabi-Sairang portions cancelled.
The Sairang-Kolkata Express scheduled for October 1 will instead originate from Hailakandi, while the Guwahati-Sairang Express that began on Wednesday will terminate there. Services between Sairang and Hailakandi have been cancelled in both cases. Passengers have been advised to take note of the changes and make alternative arrangements.
