Assam Schools Get 5 Must-Follow Directives After CJP Inspections
The Assam Education Department has directed schools across the state to strengthen security, sanitation, academic discipline and student privacy from October 1, following recent visits by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) to government schools. Schools must close their main gates before morning prayers, require outsiders to obtain prior permission to enter and prohibit unauthorized photography or videography during classes and other activities.
The guidelines also require schools to prevent unwanted or untoward situations, maintain a conducive academic environment and ensure that toilets, urinals and other campus facilities remain clean and hygienic. These measures are intended to protect the safety and rights of students.
Parents, members of School Management Committees and relevant Education Department officers and staff will remain permitted to enter school premises for legitimate purposes.
The directives came after the CJP’s recent “School Thik Karo” campaign, during which party members visited government schools to assess infrastructure and basic facilities. A team led by CJP co-convenor Ashutosh Ranka recently surveyed schools in the Palashbari and Dispur areas and raised concerns about infrastructure and the availability of essential amenities at some institutions.
The visits took place days after Ranka, other CJP leaders and volunteers were detained by the Assam Police in Guwahati ahead of a planned regional volunteers’ meeting. They were later released. The CJP said its campaign was intended to highlight shortcomings in government school infrastructure and press for better facilities.
