Assam: 5 Pistols, 13 Rounds Seized; 4 Detained in Golaghat, Kamrup
Four people were detained after five pistols and 13 rounds of live ammunition were recovered in two separate incidents in Assam’s Golaghat and Kamrup districts, police officials said.
During an operation at Chungajan in Sarupathar, Golaghat police recovered four pistols and 13 live rounds from Rakhal Sheel, a resident of Dimapur in Nagaland. The firearms included two 7.65 mm pistols and two .22-caliber pistols. Police also seized a torchlight and a plastic bag from him.
Sheel is being questioned to determine where the firearms came from and where they were being taken. Authorities have not yet established the purpose of the alleged weapons transfer.
In the second incident, local residents detained three Uttar Pradesh residents in the Kosorua area of Hajo in Kamrup after allegedly finding them carrying a pistol. The men, identified as Vishal Moria, Kuldeep and Akash Moria, were handed over to the police.
Police recovered the pistol and approximately Rs 1 lakh in cash from the trio. All three have been taken into custody and are being questioned as investigators examine how they came into possession of the firearm and why they were transporting it.
