TURA, July 25 — Habibuz Zaman, the 46-year-old sitting MDC (Member of the District Council) from the Shyamnagar constituency in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), died in New Delhi on Friday after a prolonged illness.
Zaman had been battling a blood clot in the brain for the past two years and was receiving treatment in the national capital at the time of his death.
His mortal remains were brought back to his parental home in Chibinang on Saturday afternoon.
A member of the National People’s Party (NPP), Zaman was a close associate of Phulbari MLA A.T. Mondal. The GHADC observed a one-day holiday on Friday as a mark of mourning.
There were initially conflicting reports about his condition while he remained in critical care; his death was formally confirmed by family members on Saturday.
