Judicial Infrastructure: An Indispensable Pillar for Justice, Declares CJI Surya Kant with Urgency
Chief Justice of India, Justice Surya Kant, emphasized the critical importance of enhancing judicial infrastructure for the effective delivery of justice during the foundation stone-laying ceremony for Telangana High Court Zone II in Rajendernagar, Hyderabad, on April 5, 2026. He remarked on the efforts of state governments to bolster judicial facilities and remarked, “For the Constitution to truly come alive, the judiciary and the executive must align in purpose.”
Justice Surya Kant, who has laid foundation stones for court complexes across various states, including Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh, hopes the new Telangana High Court complex will become one of the nation’s finest. He expressed optimism about the project’s timeline, as Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy assured him that construction would be completed within two years. Zone II will incorporate residential buildings for judges, enhancing the living conditions of the judiciary.
Highlighting the significance of the moment, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy described the court construction endeavor as akin to building a “temple for people of all faiths.” He stated that while various places of worship can be built, courts represent the ultimate refuge for justice seekers. “A campus for justice is like building a temple for all citizens,” he added.
Revanth Reddy acknowledged the autonomy among the legislature, executive, and judiciary while emphasizing their essential interdependence. He articulated that for ordinary citizens, the court serves as the last bastion for justice. “This new High Court complex will become an icon of justice and a functional lifeline for democracy,” the Chief Minister declared, stressing that the vulnerable and oppressed would find solace in this institution for the next century.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to upholding democratic values and highlighted that providing world-class infrastructure to the judiciary is a shared responsibility among all branches of government. “We believe all pillars must work collaboratively, showing mutual respect while avoiding confrontation,” he asserted.
The Chief Minister also reflected on the historic importance of the existing High Court building in Hyderabad but pointed to its limitations in accommodating the increasing demands from litigants, lawyers, and judicial personnel. This need for modernization is what spurred the decision to construct a state-of-the-art campus.
Envisioned as one of the largest High Court buildings in India, the new complex will span 100 acres and set a new standard for modern public infrastructure. While work has already commenced on Zone I, which focuses on institutional buildings, the recent ceremony marks a significant step forward for Zone II, planned to include residential amenities for judges.
The event was further graced by the presence of Supreme Court judges, including P.S. Narasimha, Ujjal Bhuyan, S.V. Bhatti, and Alok Aradhe, along with Telangana High Court Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh, underscoring the collaborative spirit of the judiciary on this landmark project.
This ambitious development reflects the ongoing dedication to enhancing judicial facilities in India, ensuring that justice is not only delivered but is accessible and efficient for all citizens.
