Cabinet Minister Readies Plans for Amit Shah’s Feb 21 Cachar Visit
Silchar, Feb 15 — Cabinet Minister Kaushik Rai carried out an on-site inspection at Nathanpur on the India–Bangladesh border on Monday to review preparations ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s scheduled visit for the Vibrant Villages Programme (VVP) on February 21. The visit, set to take place at the Nathanpur Border Outpost (BoP), aims to highlight the Centre’s focus on border development and strategic consolidation.
Rai was joined by Cachar Deputy Commissioner Ayush Garg, Senior Superintendent of Police Partha Protim Das and other senior district officials during the assessment. The team examined logistical arrangements and local infrastructure to ensure the high-profile event proceeds smoothly.
Speaking to The Assam Tribune, Rai said, “Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit the border village of Nathanpur on February 21 to participate in the Vibrant Villages Programme. Along with the Cachar DC, SSP, senior officials and party representatives, I reviewed the ground preparations to ensure the smooth conduct of the programme. I also held discussions with Border Security Force officials stationed at Nathanpur.”
The VVP, launched on February 15, 2023, is a centrally sponsored scheme intended for holistic development of villages along India’s international borders. The programme targets more than 600 villages nationwide with measures to improve connectivity, strengthen roads and telecommunications, promote tourism, and expand livelihood opportunities.
By focusing on infrastructure and socio-economic upliftment, the scheme also seeks to curb outmigration from border areas and reinforce national security. The Nathanpur event is expected to draw significant administrative attention and underline the Union government’s continued investment in border-region development.
