Tripura CM Urges Urgent Action for Stray Animal Safety and Rabies Awareness
Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha emphasized the importance of raising awareness about rabies and the dangers posed by stray animals during a meeting on February 7. He announced the establishment of shelter homes for stray animals in 20 Nagar Panchayat areas and the construction of Animal Birth Control (ABC) centers in the Agartala Municipal Corporation area, Dharmanagar Municipal Council, and six other districts.
Dr. Saha highlighted the need to educate students, teachers, and the general public about how to behave around stray dogs and other animals, stressing that knowledge on preventive measures and basic first aid is vital for minimizing the risk of diseases transmitted by animals.
“The state government is actively engaged in rescuing stray animals and providing them with adequate shelter. We have initiated several measures to protect these animals from accidents and harm,” he stated.
During the meeting, organized by the Animal Resources Development Department at the Secretariat conference hall, Dr. Saha focused on the management of stray dogs and other animals. He underscored the significance of vaccinating domestic animals to curb the spread of diseases and instructed officials to ensure that the public is well-informed about any management initiatives before they are launched.
He also requested information regarding the total population of stray animals in the state, the operational status of ABC centers at various locations, and the progress in managing the stray animal population.
