Shiv Sena (UBT) Urges Police for Swift Action on Two ‘Missing’ Corporators in Kalyan Civic Crisis!

On January 23, 2026, the Kalyan unit of Shiv Sena (UBT) lodged a complaint with the police, expressing concern over the sudden disappearance of two newly elected corporators, Madhur Umesh Mhatre and Kirti Rajan Dhone. Despite extensive outreach to family members, relatives, and party officials, attempts to reach the corporators have proven unsuccessful.

Sharad Shivraj Patil, chief of the Shiv Sena (UBT) in Kalyan, filed the complaint at the Kolsewadi police station. He urged law enforcement to register a missing person case, emphasizing that their disappearance is not only a matter of personal safety but also raises significant concerns regarding democratic integrity, law and order, and public trust. “The phones of the two corporators are switched off. The possibility of pressure, fraud, kidnapping, or other criminal activities cannot be ruled out,” Patil stated in his complaint.

Following the submission, the police confirmed that an investigation is underway. The urgency of the matter is underscored by the recent civic elections held on January 15, where the Eknath Shinde-led faction of Shiv Sena triumphed, securing 52 out of 122 seats in the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation. The BJP came in a close second with 51 seats, while the Shiv Sena (UBT) could only secure 11, marking a significant electoral setback for the faction. Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) garnered five seats, while Congress and NCP (SP) won two and one seat, respectively. Notably, both Shiv Sena factions and MNS unexpectedly shifted alliances before the elections, breaking away from their prior partners, the BJP and Shiv Sena (UBT).

In a concurrent political discourse, MNS chief Raj Thackeray addressed the evolving political landscape, making it clear that any “slightly flexible stance” he may take is not motivated by personal gains or selfish interests. His comments follow the decision of five MNS corporators to align with the Eknath Shinde-led faction of Shiv Sena in the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation.

The ongoing developments raise questions about the political dynamics in Maharashtra, especially in light of the recent civic election results and the unexpected alliances formed. As investigations proceed into the disappearance of the two corporators, the regional political atmosphere remains charged with uncertainty and speculation.

This situation is not only crucial for the individuals involved but also reflects wider implications for governance and public trust in the region. As the public and political observers await more information, the stakes for both Shiv Sena factions and their constituents continue to rise.

Maharashtra remains a focal point of political activity, with evolving alliances and voter sentiments shaping the narrative as the state navigates complex party dynamics.
