Security forces in Manipur made significant discoveries on January 24, recovering a large cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives across various locations in the state. This operation highlights the ongoing security challenges and the heightened vigilance of law enforcement agencies in the region.
Coordinated efforts led to the recovery of sophisticated weaponry, including grenades and improvised explosive devices (IEDs), from districts such as Churachandpur, Imphal West, and Imphal East. According to official sources, the operations were strategically planned to address security concerns.
In Churachandpur district, security forces located a substantial stockpile of arms between Loilamkot and Nalon, under the jurisdiction of Churachandpur Police Station. This seizure included three rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) ammunitions, five 30-mm grenades, one bolt-action rifle (.303 calibre), two medium-range “Pumpi” local cannons, and additional small arms. This indicates the presence of both heavy and improvised weaponry in the area.
Separately, forces uncovered an even more concerning cache in Waheng Khuman Mamang Leikai, located under Wangoi Police Station in Imphal West district. This operation yielded two modified .303 rifles, three pistols, six magazines of varying arms, three high-explosive grenades, and 23 rounds of live ammunition across different calibres. Additionally, they seized a detonator, four mortar shell bombs, one IED, and explosives totaling around one kilogram.
Another significant operation took place at the foothills of the Naotrok Hill Range under Sagolmang Police Station in Imphal East district. Here, security personnel recovered a double-barrel breech-loading gun, a country-made 9mm pistol, along with grenades and various ammunition, including bulletproof gear. This underscores the complex security dynamics currently faced in Manipur.
