Tragedy Strikes: 18 Injured as Bus Plunges into Gorge in Tripura
A bus accident in Kamalpur’s Saikabazar area, located in Tripura’s Dhalai district, on January 12, resulted in injuries to at least 18 passengers, causing panic and disruption in the local market. The bus was en route from Agartala to Kailashahar in Unakoti district when it lost control while negotiating a turn near Saikabazar and plunged into a deep gorge.
Passengers reported that the journey commenced at Radhanagar Bus Stand in Agartala. Initially, the bus broke down near Khowai, prompting the passengers to transfer to a different bus. While traveling at high speed, this bus skidded while turning, leading to the unfortunate accident. At the time of the incident, there were approximately 32 to 35 passengers onboard.
Emergency services, including the Fire and Emergency Services and local administration, quickly responded to the scene. The injured passengers were rescued and transported to nearby hospitals. Eleven individuals received treatment at Kamalpur Sub-Divisional Hospital, five were taken to Dhalai District Hospital, and two were sent to Fatikroy Primary Health Centre.
Tripura’s Chief Minister, Manik Saha, expressed his concern over the incident through a social media post, wishing for a speedy recovery for those injured and instructing authorities to provide prompt medical assistance. “I have come to know about the bus accident that took place at Saikabazar in Kamalpur. Of the injured, 11 have been shifted to the local sub-divisional hospital, five to Dhalai District Hospital, and two to the Primary Health Centre in Fatikroy.
