Unite for Change: Ajit Pawar Champions NCP-NCP (SP) Alliance for a Thriving Pimpri-Chinchwad Future!
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar announced a significant reunion between the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) factions ahead of the upcoming Municipal Corporation elections, pivoting towards a united front for the Pimpri-Chinchwad municipal corporation (PCMC) polls. Speaking to the public on December 28, 2025, Ajit Pawar emphasized the importance of collaboration, stating, “The clock [symbol of NCP] and the ‘tutari’ [NCP-SP] have united for the PCMC polls. The ‘parivar’ (family) has once again come together.” He urged constituents to remain patient as further details would emerge in the coming days.
In his address, Ajit Pawar highlighted the development initiatives undertaken in PCMC, presenting the area as a model of modern infrastructure that appeals to residents. “We brought development that people are happy to live in PCMC,” he proclaimed, referencing the establishment of an IT hub in Hinjewadi, which has earned acclaim as one of the top IT parks in India. This development narrative is likely to resonate with voters as the elections approach.
Since the NCP’s split in 2023, Ajit Pawar’s faction has been allied with the BJP and the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena at the state level. However, the lead-up to the municipal elections saw deliberation within his faction about whether to operate independently or to reconcile with Sharad Pawar’s NCP. With this recent announcement, the discord appears to be resolved, paving the way for a unified campaign.
Ajit Pawar also took the opportunity to critique the politics of defection that have become prevalent in Maharashtra. Without directly naming the BJP, he remarked, “In my 25 years of career, I never did politics of defections and splits. Today, everywhere, party workers and leaders are shifted here and there. When I ask any of those people why they quit, they say my work is sabotaged. People here should not tolerate it.” This assertion underscores his commitment to stability within his party, contrasting it with the current political climate.
Moreover, he focused on ongoing road projects aimed at alleviating traffic congestion and reducing pollution in Pune and PCMC. Citing his record during his tenure from 1992 to 2017, he stated, “Not even once have corruption charges been leveled against me,” positioning himself as a candidate of integrity.
In a call for civility, Ajit Pawar urged party members to maintain decorum during the election campaigning process, advocating against the use of foul language at rallies. As the Maharashtra State Election Commission has scheduled elections for 29 Municipal Corporations, including PCMC, for January 15, 2026, with results expected the following day, the reunification of NCP factions may significantly influence the electoral landscape.
This strategic alliance could reshape the political dynamics in Maharashtra, particularly in light of Ajit Pawar’s emphasis on development and integrity, appealing strongly to the electorate’s aspirations for progress. As the political climate evolves, the upcoming elections will not only test the unity of the NCP but also reflect the current sentiment and priorities of the constituents.
