
Yadap Apang’s Final Resting Place: A Tribute to His Legacy
The mortal remains of Yadap Apang, a former MLA of Pasighat West and notable publisher, were laid to rest on December 28 in Oyan, East Siang district. Apang passed away on December 26. Her last rites, conducted in accordance with the Donyi Polo yelam tradition, were attended by her husband, former Chief Minister Gegong Apang, their children, grandchildren, and numerous relatives, friends, and community members, all of whom bid a heartfelt farewell.
Several dignitaries joined in paying their respects, including Lok Sabha member Tapir Gao and MLAs Ninong Ering and Tapi Gao, alongside former ministers, government officials, and public leaders. Community organizations, such as the Adi Bane Kebang (Apex) and the All Adi Welfare Society, also honored her memory by laying floral wreaths and recalling her significant contributions to society, while praying for her eternal peace.
Yadap Apang was elected to the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly in 1995, representing the Pasighat West constituency. Also recognized as a trailblazer in the state’s tea sector, she played a crucial role in establishing the Donyi Polo Tea Estate in the mid-1980s. Additionally, she was the publisher of the local daily.
In recognition of her contributions, the state government has declared that all government offices, institutions, and markets in East Siang district will be closed on December 29 as a mark of respect. The national flag will be flown at half-mast that day.
Condolences have been pouring in from various community sectors, with Adi Bane Kebang President Tanong Tatak describing her as a pioneering leader dedicated to public service. Oyan Gaon Buri Babita Bori reflected on how Apang inspired rural women towards economic empowerment, stating, “Her contributions to the local society will always be remembered with respect and gratitude.”
MLA Ninong Ering expressed profound sorrow over Apang’s passing, recognizing her as a remarkable woman known for her kindness, while MP Tapir Gao remarked on her unique commitment to women’s issues. The Tamin Welfare Society, located in Daporijo, Upper Subansiri district, also expressed its condolences, highlighting her lasting impact on the community.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our beloved leader Yadap Apang. Her modest nature touched the lives of many in Arunachal Pradesh,” said the TWS in their condolence message. They noted that her unwavering dedication to social work for the less fortunate would not be forgotten. The TWS extended heartfelt sympathies to her family, praying for the strength to endure their profound loss.
