US President Donald Trump has called on the Justice Department to disclose the names of Democrats associated with Jeffrey Epstein, asserting that the revelations should be used to “embarrass them” amid ongoing efforts to release records related to the disgraced financier. Trump’s remarks come after he signed legislation on November 19 that mandates the public release of federal documents concerning Epstein, who died by suicide in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. The law stipulates that these documents must be made available within 30 days.
As of December 19, the Justice Department has begun releasing records linked to Epstein, having published hundreds of thousands of pages thus far. However, officials have indicated that millions of additional documents remain under review. On December 24, the department announced that the FBI and federal prosecutors had identified over one million more Epstein-related documents, cautioning that it would take several weeks to process these materials for public release. This slow pace has led some lawmakers to accuse the Trump administration of failing to comply with the new disclosure law.
Responding to the updates, Trump expressed his frustration on Truth Social on December 27. He accused Democrats of using the Epstein case as a political diversion and claimed, “Now 1,000,000 more pages on Epstein are found. DOJ is being forced to spend all of its time on this Democrat-inspired hoax.” He further stated, “The Dems are the ones who worked with Epstein, not the Republicans. Release all of their names, embarrass them, and get back to helping our country!” Trump maintained that the “Radical Left” is attempting to divert attention from the accomplishments of Republicans by focusing on issues related to Epstein.
In a previous post during the Christmas season, Trump used more pointed language, specifically targeting Epstein’s former associates. He wrote, “Merry Christmas to all, including the many sleazebags who loved Jeffrey Epstein, gave him bundles of money, went to his island, attended his parties. When their names get brought out… and it is revealed that they are Democrats all, there will be a lot of explaining to do.”
Epstein, a wealthy financier with connections to many influential figures across various sectors, had a long-standing relationship with Trump before their fallout. Some of the newly released documents reference Trump, including mentions of flights on Epstein’s private plane, while other records contain photographs of high-profile individuals, including former President Bill Clinton. Notably, most released documents are heavily redacted, and authorities have yet to accuse Trump or Clinton of any wrongdoing linked to Epstein.
The Justice Department has committed to continuing its review of the remaining Epstein-related materials to adhere to the disclosure law, although a definitive timeline for the release of these documents has not been provided.
