Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended heartfelt wishes for Chhath Puja on October 25, marking the commencement of the four-day festival with the inaugural ritual of ‘Nahay-Khay.’ The celebration, deeply rooted in tradition, saw devotees across the country participating in rituals on this auspicious day. PM Modi took to X to convey his greetings, stating, “With the sacred ritual of Nahay-Khay, the four-day grand festival of Chhath is commencing auspiciously from today. My heartfelt best wishes to the devotees across the country, including Bihar. My salutations and homage to all the observers of the fast!”

In a follow-up post, he expressed gratitude for having visited Begusarai the previous day, where he paid tribute to legendary folk artist Sharda Sinha. “Bihar Kokila Sharda Sinha ji has had a close connection with Begusarai. Sharda Sinha ji and many folk artists of Bihar have connected the festival of Chhath to a different sentiment through their songs,” Modi remarked. To celebrate the occasion, he shared traditional Chhath songs, inviting everyone to experience their enchanting melodies.

Chhath Puja, dedicated to the Sun God, is celebrated after Diwali, continuing for six days of the lunar month of Kartika. It signifies the devotion of the people in seeking blessings for prosperity and well-being. The festivities culminate on October 28, with the main celebrations set to occur on October 27. According to Drik Panchang, the auspicious times for the festival include sunrise at 6:30 AM and sunset at 5:46 PM on the primary celebration day. Shashthi Tithi is set to begin at 6:04 AM on October 27 and will conclude at 7:59 AM on October 28.

Known by various names such as Surya Shashti, Chhath, and Dala Chhath, this festival illustrates the commitment of devotees to the Sun God, emphasizing themes of gratitude and reverence. Devotees engage in rigorous rituals that symbolize purification and devotion, making it one of the most significant festivals celebrated by millions, particularly in Bihar.

As preparations unfold and the festivities continue, the cultural significance and community spirit of Chhath Puja remain paramount, highlighting its enduring legacy as a celebration of life, prosperity, and familial bonds. With the festival bringing people together, it stands as a testament to the vibrant traditions that enrich India’s cultural tapestry. The Prime Minister’s acknowledgment of Chhath Puja not only reinforces the event’s importance but also unites citizens in a shared celebration of faith and tradition.

In this vibrant time of festival, the sentiments shared by PM Modi resonate deeply, underscoring the unity and diversity that characterize Hindu traditions across the nation.
