Urgent Appeal: India Urges Pakistan to Halt Human Rights Abuses in J&K
India has called on Pakistan to cease the serious and ongoing human rights violations occurring in the areas it occupies illegally, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir. During an open debate at the United Nations Security Council on “The United Nations Organization: Looking into the Future,” held in conjunction with the 80th UN Day, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Parvathaneni Harish, made this appeal.
Harish reaffirmed that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral and inalienable part of India. He noted that while the people in the region are able to exercise their fundamental rights, such principles remain foreign to Pakistan.
In his address, Harish highlighted India’s commitment to the philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, which envisions the world as one family. He explained that this outlook not only shapes India’s worldview but also drives its consistent advocacy for justice, dignity, opportunity, and prosperity for all societies. This commitment underpins India’s faith in multilateralism and international cooperation.
India has always supported its counterparts from the Global South and will continue to offer its expertise and experience across various domains. Harish urged all member states to unite and collaborate toward realizing this vision, ensuring that the UN is equipped to address the challenges of a new era.
