Zubeen Da: A Call for Unity and Peace Amid Grief, by Pijush Hazarika
Assam minister Pijush Hazarika has called upon fans of the late singer Zubeen Garg to maintain peace and unity during the grief that has enveloped the state following the beloved artist’s passing. In an emotional post on social media, Hazarika urged the people of Assam to express their sorrow with dignity and respect, mirroring the principles Zubeen embodied in his life.
Hazarika expressed his personal admiration for Zubeen, stating, “I am a lifelong admirer of Zubeen da. I personally bought his cassettes like Anamika and Maya with my own hands. We grew up listening to his voice-his songs were the soundtrack of our youth.” His words highlighted a deep personal connection to the late music icon.
The minister further revealed that his relationship with Zubeen and his family went beyond music, asserting, “Our bond was not just musical; it was deeply personal.” This acknowledgment underscores a profound sense of affection and mutual respect.
Hazarika reaffirmed his confidence in the ongoing investigation surrounding Zubeen’s untimely death, assuring fans that the Assam government is dedicated to uncovering the truth. “As a fan, I want justice for our beloved Zubeen da. And as a minister, I can assure that under the direct guidance of Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, the probe is being conducted with complete seriousness,” he stated.
However, he expressed concerns regarding certain protest actions that have emerged recently, cautioning that these forms of grief may inadvertently contradict the values Zubeen represented. He stated, “I strongly oppose the act of breaking bangles or tearing sacred threads in front of cameras. Such acts go against our Assamese traditions and send a negative message to society.”
Hazarika emphasized that Zubeen Garg was not just a singer but a unifying figure who bridged cultural and community divides. “Zubeen da was a voice of unity. His music connected hearts and brought people together. He envisioned an Assam where love, peace, and harmony prevailed. We must keep that vision alive,” he added.
In closing, the minister appealed to fans to avoid allowing their grief to turn into anger or division. “We all want justice for Zubeen da, but our emotions must not overshadow the values he stood for-love, peace, and mutual respect. Let us honor his memory by staying united, as he always wanted us to be,” Hazarika urged.
