Assam Police have arrested two personal security officers (PSOs) of the late singer Zubeen Garg due to significant financial discrepancies found in their accounts. Nandeswar Bora and Prabin Baishya were apprehended after authorities discovered more than Rs 1.1 crore in transactions that far exceed their known income sources, which included Rs 70 lakh in one account and Rs 45 lakh in another.
Over the past four days, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been questioning the PSOs. Zubeen Garg’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg, has asserted that the funds were allocated to the PSOs for his social welfare activities. She emphasized that the PSOs possess all necessary bank statements and have kept detailed records of their transactions. Garima urged that the ongoing investigation should remain focused on uncovering the truth, rather than becoming politicized.
The PSOs have reportedly served the singer for nearly a decade, having been assigned to him by the Assam Police following threats from the now-banned ULFA outfit. The SIT continues to delve into the matter, which has seen the arrest of seven individuals in connection with Zubeen Garg’s death.
Initially, on October 1, 2025, festival organizer Shyamkanu Mahanta and Garg’s manager Siddhartha Sharma were arrested for alleged negligence and conspiracy. The following day, musician Sekharjyoti Goswami and singer Amritprabha Mahanta were detained regarding their involvement in events associated with Garg’s tragic demise. Additionally, on October 8, Zubeen’s cousin, DSP Sandipan Garg, was arrested for being present with the singer during the critical incident aboard a yacht.
The latest arrests on October 10 included Bora and Baishya, linked to financial transactions totaling over ₹1.1 crore, which raised questions about potential financial misconduct. The SIT is meticulously investigating financial irregularities as well as any instances of negligence, with plans to file a chargesheet in the coming months.
