Oli Urges Urgent Reinstatement of House of Representatives in Nepal
Kathmandu: Former Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli of Nepal has called for the reinstatement of the dissolved House of Representatives, highlighting the need for national unity and political stability. At an event organized by the CPN-UML’s Bhaktapur District Committee in Gundu on Wednesday, Oli expressed his party’s support for restoring the parliament and voiced confidence that the Nepali Congress would also align with this initiative.
Oli’s resignation in early September came amidst significant youth-led protests, driven by allegations of corruption and a ban on social media that sparked outrage among the younger population. Following his departure, former Chief Justice Sushila Karki took over as interim prime minister on September 12, a decision made on the recommendation of President Ramchandra Paudel, who dissolved the parliament.
The next general election is scheduled for March 5, 2026. Oli emphasized that any electoral process must foster trust and active participation among all political parties, stating, “The country now needs unity, stability, and a positive environment to ensure peace and prosperity.”
Moreover, the Election Commission recently approved the timeline for the upcoming House of Representatives election, reflecting a step towards formalizing the political landscape in the country.
