PM Modi Unveils Revolutionary 4G Mobile Network: Transforming Connectivity
Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated a Swadeshi 4G mobile network on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at the Assam Rifles Garrison located in Modi, Chandel District, Manipur, which borders Myanmar to the south. The Prime Minister conducted the inauguration from Jharsuguda, Odisha, emphasizing the critical role of technological self-reliance and digital empowerment for India’s border security forces, in line with the national vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
This initiative, a collaboration with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), is a significant step forward in enhancing operational communication and connectivity for troops stationed in strategically sensitive areas. Fifty personnel from the Assam Rifles were present at the event, alongside senior officials from BSNL and the Department of Telecommunications. Their participation highlighted the joint effort involved in this milestone project and the dedication to extending digital services to underserved regions.
According to a statement from a defense wing, the introduction of the indigenous 4G network is anticipated to notably enhance communication between personnel and their families, thereby boosting morale and mission readiness. The improved connectivity will also facilitate operational coordination, ensuring that troops in remote areas stay connected through dependable and secure digital channels. The development exemplifies the collaboration between the defense and telecom sectors in crafting sustainable and indigenous solutions to connectivity challenges in Northeast India. The Assam Rifles remains committed to initiatives that improve operational efficiency and personnel welfare, particularly in remote and high-altitude deployments.
