India’s Historic Rail-Based Launch of Agni-Prime Missile: A Milestone
India has successfully launched the Agni-Prime missile, marking a significant step in its strategic capabilities. This innovative test, conducted from a rail-based mobile launcher, makes India the first country to demonstrate such a system for an intermediate-range missile. With a range of up to 2,000 kilometers, the Agni-Prime can be deployed quickly, enhancing operational efficiency and minimizing visibility during missions.
On September 25, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh celebrated the milestone on X (formerly Twitter), commending the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the Strategic Forces Command (SFC), and the Armed Forces. He stated, “Congratulations to DRDO, Strategic Forces Command (SFC), and the Armed Forces on the successful test of the Intermediate Range Agni-Prime missile. This successful flight test has placed India among the select nations that have developed a canisterised launch system capable of operating from an on-the-move rail network.”
The rail-based mobile launcher offers strategic advantages, allowing for unobstructed movement across India’s rail network. This development not only underscores India’s commitment to bolstering its defense capabilities but also showcases its advances in missile technology. The successful launch positions India firmly within an elite group of nations proficient in canisterized missile systems.
This achievement is a testament to India’s growing military sophistication and serves to enhance national security, reflecting its strategic intent in an increasingly complex geopolitical landscape.
